Morning Briefing for pub, restaurant and food wervice operators

Thu 27th Apr 2017 - Deliveroo reports lunchtime takeaway orders jump 114%, partners with 10,000th restaurant
Deliveroo reports lunchtime takeaway orders jump 114%, partners with 10,000th restaurant: Deliveroo has reported lunchtime takeaway orders have jumped 114% and partnered with its 10,000th restaurant in the UK. The company said rather than wait for the traditional Friday or Saturday night take-out, people are ordering restaurant-quality food to their homes and offices daily for lunch. Meanwhile, Deliveroo has partnered with its 10,000th restaurant with Manchester-based Cottonopolis, which offers Asian-inspired food on demand, joining the delivery service. Deliveroo UK and Ireland managing director Dan Warne said: “It’s great to welcome our 10,000th restaurant to Deliveroo and we look forward to helping yet another independent British business to grow and expand our winning formula of delivering the very best food from the very best restaurants at the very best price. It’s why more and more restaurants are joining us exclusively and more and more customers are ordering their lunch with us. As the company grows we will ensure restaurants, riders and customers all benefit from our growth.” Cottonopolis director Dan Morris added: “We’re excited by the opportunity this partnership will provide to reach even more diners across Manchester. Quality home delivery has become central to the dining habits of many across the city and we believe that our focused delivery menu will be a welcome addition and that Deliveroo are the perfect team to enable us to provide that service.” The majority of the restaurants available on Deliveroo – including Cottonopolis, and 23 of the top 25 most popular restaurants on the platform – work exclusively with the food delivery service, including better burger brand Five Guys, which is expanding to 18 more towns and cities in the UK from May; Jamie’s Italian, which will be introducing its Jamie’s Pizzeria range exclusively to Deliveroo in more than 25 locations; and Vietnamese street food restaurant Pho, which has recently left other platforms to become exclusive with Deliveroo. Pho co-founder Stephen Wall said: “Consumer dining behaviours have changed dramatically in the UK over the last few years, and working with Deliveroo has helped us to – quite literally – deliver the food our customers want to eat, in the comfort of their own home or office. As more and more people demand quality restaurant food to be delivered, we know that our exclusive partnership with Deliveroo will be beneficial as we grow the Pho brand.”
